Project 365 – My Transformation

I’m taking the next year of my life to completely transform my body & mind.

I’m going to go from an overweight food addicted man who lacks self confidence to a healthy, strong, and confident man. I’m going to become the image that I have of myself in my mind. I’m going to exceed my own expectations and become the role model to my son and daughter that I’ve always wanted to be. These next 365 days are a work in progress. The constant and steady effort each and every day towards progress and improvement.

I call this Project 365: My Transformation, and it begins now!

Official Starting Weight is 270 lbs!

My Birthday Gift to My Son

Well, tomorrow is Cole’s 4th birthday!

I can’t believe how quickly he is growing up. He’s a little man now. One that is fully capable of putting his father in his place. Just yesterday my son said, “Daddy, why are you so fat?”. I know he didn’t mean anything by it, and probably actually only said it because he hears me talking about it all the time, but it still hit me pretty hard.

It’s time that I finally man up and face this challenge head on. I need to stay on plan and actually lose weight. I talk a big talk but rarely follow through with what I say I’m going to do. It’s a horrible flaw of mine and I hate having to self label myself a QUITTER. But that’s what I am. I’m a quitter. I’ve been one for quite some time. I rarely see things through to the end. If I would have just stuck to any ONE of my hundreds of diets that I’ve started over the year then I’d be sitting here at goal weight, happy, with a son that would never have known “fat dad”.

So my birthday gift to my son (outside of Ninja Turtles stuff, his favorite DVDs, etc) is a promise. A promise to make a better effort. I’m not going to promise the world because let’s face it I’m a quitter and there is a high probability that I will give up along the way, but I will promise actual honest effort. I will try again, this time for my son. I owe it to him. He needs a healthy dad in his life to be a positive role model. I don’t want him growing up having to struggle with his weight. The best gift that I could give my son is a confident, happy, energetic father.

I will post each day outlining how I feel that I did that day. I’m hoping this blog helps hold me accountable. I will give an honest effort and try to change.

My New & Permanent Blog Address

I’ve messed around with a few blogs lately (robsredemption.com &  millcityrunner.com) but have finally settled on the permanent home for my thoughts, pictures, and whatever else I feel like sharing with the world. My blog here at robmontgomery.net will be my ONLY blog moving forward. I had previously been separating my weight loss blog from my running blog but have decided to combine everything into one site. I will also be introducing some photography, product reviews, family stuff, and a bunch of other things.

For those who were reading either robsredemption or millcityrunner, it’s all still here, just incorporated throughout this site.

Sad Day in Boston…

What a horrible & tragic ending to one of the best events in American sports. The Boston Marathon is THE marathon to run in. It will now forever have a dark stain because of these terrorist attacks. My heart goes out to all of those injured and killed, as well as their families & friends.

I can only imagine what it was like in downtown Boston today. I live around 30 minutes North and West of the city so I was not around any of the chaos, but my wife works in Boston and takes the public transportation so it definitely effected me directly. I was very concerned for her safety, specifically when she needed to take public transportation to get home. Once they mentioned a bomb at the library around 4 miles away from the initial impact zone it really made me worried because at that point nobody knew the scale of these attacks. Luckily she made it home safe and sound.

There are a lot of horrible people that live in this world. It’s a real shame even going to run in a race is now something you need to think about in regards to your own safety. I really hope they find who did this…

Scale Update: 259.2 lbs

Today is my first official day of no longer “dieting”.

I have a feeling that just focusing on healthy decisions is really going to make the scale start heading downwards. All of this yo-yo dieting has to stop. No more crazy diet gimmicks or switching on a daily basis. It’s all about caloric intake and caloric expenditure for now.

I will be posting scale updates once a week on Mondays.

New Shoes – Pegasus 29

Picked up a pair of new running shoes today!

I haven’t purchased a new pair of running shoes in quite some time and celebrated by buying my favorite type of shoe (Nike Pegasus) and to top it off got them in a very bright color. I normally only get black or plain colored shoes but figured, what the hell, get some flashy ones this time.

Ended up getting a $100 pair of shoes for $65 at the Nike outlet. Can’t beat that. I’m expecting these ones to last 400 miles or so and will keep track of the mileage in my SportTracks account. I gotta tell you, they feel great! Very cushioned. That’s why I love the Pegasus as a daily trainer. Any and all mileage runs.

Looking forward to taking them out for a test run either Monday or Tuesday.
